Multiple Types of Collagen
Did you know that are up to 28 different strains of collagen.
The typical collagen products you buy are only Type I & Type III coming from beef sources.
The other day I watched a video which was very informative about the other roles different types of collagen play.
The one missing from the chart below is Type IV – interestingly enough it has to with the respiratory tract, intestines and tissues around the heart. It makes me wonder if this could be a missing link in the treatment of ‘leaky gut.’ I see a lot of patients with symptoms of ‘leaky gut.’
Possible symptoms of leaky gut
- chronic diarrhea, constipation, or bloating
- nutritional deficiencies
- fatigue
- headaches
- confusion
- difficulty concentrating
- skin problems, such as acne, rashes, or eczema
- joint pain
Currently I’m trying out a new supplement with the 5 types listed below, but also with Collagen Type IV. My dog, Boxster is now on the protocol and he’s also already acting peppier at 13 years old. I started him on Great Lakes collagen 10 years ago along with a collagen activator from Xymogen called RegeneMax, this combination helped him stop limping from diffuse arthritis at an early age. If I tried to remove either one after 10 days (every time) he’d start limping again. Dogs are great because there is no placebo effect at play, either they get better or they don’t.
I will the new product I’m trying after a couple of months. I am hoping that with the Type IV in the mix that I will see improvement with ‘leaky gut syndrome’ symptoms.
