MY PERSONAL RECIPE

I personally use 1 tablespoon of Barlean’s Omega Swirl (flax oil – strawberry flavored) plus 1 teaspoon of ground flaxseed with dried berries by Spectrum [both can purchased at “the Vitamin Shoppe” for the cheapest price] with either 1/2 cup of honey greek yogurt from Trader Joe’s or 1/2 cup of low fat cottage cheese. I use this once every other day and it’s a tasty breakfast.

When something usually sounds too good to be true … well you know the saying. However, I had read the information on the flaxseed oil diet and I gave it to my father because he had two types of cancer, but interestingly his cholesterol dropped in half in one month. Since then I have seen many people drop their cholesterol just by adding this to their diet.

ACCORDING TO DR. BUDWIG

According to Dr. Budwig a combination of flaxseed oil, ground flaxseed and cottage cheese produces an effect which aids the immune system. It was suggested by Dr. Budwig that that there are anti-cancer, anti-heart disease and anti-arthritic properties to using this flaxseed oil combination.

Interestingly enough, I started my father on this when he had cancer, after being on this diet for one month his cholesterol dropped in half from high to low normal. Since then I have seen clients try the flaxseed oil with cottage cheese or yogurt and also have beneficial effects on dramatically reducing their cholesterol levels in 1 to 3 months. I have not heard of or personally seen any results with regard to cancer.

From a nutritional perspective Omega 3 (fish oils – alpha-linoleic oils) and Omega 6 (flaxseed – linoleic oils, amongst others) are beneficial to the body by reducing inflammation as they are precursors for our body to manufacture the anti-inflammatory hormones PG-1 and Pg-3. Most of are diets are skewed towards the animals fats or arachidonic acids which are precursors for the inflammatory hormone Pg-2, which can create a pro-inflammatory state in the body.

On a practical level if you are looking at increasing your consumption of essential fatty acids, (omega 3 and 6), to reduce inflammation and lower cholesterol levels; I would not take more than 1 tablespoons of ‘good’ oil’ per day (i.e. flaxseed oil) mixed with 2 to 4 tbsp. of 1% fat cottage cheese (or yogurt – and 1:2 mixture) and also markedly reducing the ‘bad’ fats (saturated/animal fats) and sugars from your diet.
